Respect the fundamental rights of self determination of Somaliland- part one

''No one else has the right to pressure the president of Somaliland except his people who have the right to urge him when to go or not to go London conference''. Mr Mead

- To those of us who don’t have the emotional bond with (Somaliland) the Mother or did not live in her tragic history, but instead have the emotional bond with material benefit on her expense, be aware that attempting to eat (national cause) the forbidden tree is seriously deadly. Mr. Siilanyo and his collection of aids in his administration conduct the peoples (government) business as their own enterprise! The danger lies when they venture to eat the ‘forbidden tree’ and that is when they trivialize or betray the ultimate cause which is the sanctity of the independence of Somaliland.

The argument that there is some money for Somaliland in taking-part the Somalia conference in London is pathetic, as it is a betrayal of trust; because Somaliland is not for sale in the first place! Those of us who love the sound of money must not mess with the CAUSE which the people of Somaliland had shed blood, tears and treasure.

All moral and fair minded people must respect the right of the people of Somaliland to exist with in their borders and exercise their right of self-determination. The wishes of the resilient and peaceful people of Somaliland must be respected even when you don’t agree with their desire to have and keep their country sovereign and independent from Somalia, the perpetrators and executioners of the ethnic cleansing that took place in then Northern regions; now Somaliland.

Somalia finds difficult to recognize that. Every body must respect that fundamental right for all peoples. That is said, it is ironic, and unfortunate that the people of Somaliland believe that their own government tells the world different thing while the resilient survivors who are the Somaliland people are in no ambiguous terms telling the world that they will stand on their ground as far as their (cause) independence is concerned despite any undesirable and unjust pressure from any quarter where ever that unfair pressure may come from!

Somaliland people which kept the peace in the region must have the same respect that every nation must have. Somaliland is not an autocratic foreign packaged entity. Somaliland elects their leaders. They have their own constitution and pursue a democratic system of government, despite its deficiencies. They kept peace in the ailing horn

Self-determination in International Law

Essentially, the right to self-determination is the right of a people to determine there own destiny. Why the international community does want to deny this right for the people of Somaliland who worked hard for it, is mystery to me? It is unfair in its core! The principle allows a people to choose its own political status and to determine its own form of government, its own economic, cultural and social development.

The importance lies in the right of choice. Nevertheless, the right to self-determination is recognized in international law as a right belonging to peoples to determine their own state under the international law and that is what Somaliland has done

“The principle of self-determination is prominently embodied in Article I of the Charter of the United Nations It is recognized as a right of all peoples in the first article common to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights which both entered into force in 1976.”

All peoples have the right to self-determination. By virtue of that right they freely determine their political status.

“The concept of self-determination is a very powerful one. As ‘Wolfgang Danspeckgruber” put it, it evokes emotions, expectations and fears which often lead to conflict and bloodshed. The principle and fundamental right to self-determination of all peoples is firmly established in international law.”

Essentially, the right to self-determination is the right of a people to determine its own destiny. Exercise of this right can result in a variety of different outcomes, willingly and not by force or coercion. The importance lies in the right of choice, and Somaliland made that choice. They willingly chose independence, and did it in the right way.

London conference is for Somalia and not for Somaliland.

We commend the British government and who ever else involved for the up-coming London conference for Somalia to help Somalia which failed to help her self! They had many, many of this kind of conferences out side their soil before and all failed!

However the inclusion and injection of Somaliland in to this Somalia conference as part of Somalia is a fragrant violation of the fundamental rights of Somaliland’s self determination which has been popularly expressed by Referendum. Somaliland never expected this move denying her rights, from Britain which we had about a century old relationship!

Somaliland has experienced this kind of pressure from the sponsors of the astronomical conferences for Somalia before. Somaliland stood on her ground regarding the unfair pressures before. S/land can not entertain this as they can not abrogate the verdict of her people even when Mr. Siilanyo is not as forthcoming as others before him were!

No one else has the right to pressure the president of Somaliland except his people who have the right to urge him when to go or not to go London conference! Only his people can, and his people don’t see any thing good for Somaliland in the upcoming London conference which is for the troubled Somalia. Somaliland is not Somalia nor is it part of Somalia, let us be honest and clear here. Any deceptive excuses and moves from the part of Siilanyo’s administration will be rendered unacceptable and will be considered treasonous by the people of Somaliland.

Conclusion:

Even though Mr. Siilanyo and his crew are functioning differently and running the people’s government like a small business of theirs with no bounds, however Mr.Siilanyo and his pack better understand that the People are the bosses and governors are the servants of the people. They better understand that they are also on contract. That is what is expected from a free and a democratic government. They need to heed the call of the people and change direction in governing if they are serious of the peace and stability of Somaliland and of the region as a whole.

1-let us rebuild the house of Somaliland which has been seriously damaged. let us strengthen the self confidence and remind the people how they confronted and defeated Siad Bare of Somalia by their steel confidence, unity and conviction, but you have to unite the people and abandon the corruption first.

2- Convey to the people that Allah recognized Somaliland and the sovereignty of Somaliland when He made her a place of peace and progress through their devotion and resilience. The recognition we deserve is just a matter of time. We don’t need to tell lies! It was yesterday when they said main land Republic of China did not exist, thus not recognized! They recognized Taiwan as the sole Representative of the people of China. It was so for a time. Time came and time changed that declaration and the truth came out off the shadow. The same thing will happen here if we persist and elect God fearing, honest, visionary and caring leadership.

3- Sacrificing the relationship of Somaliland (with her neighbours) and the well being of our people south of the border for few elements who are close to the leadership and who are undesirable in the region and the world for security reasons is cruel and irresponsible! Look at what is happening to our people south of the border. Some one is sending diplomatic message to the leadership of Somaliland. It is loud and clear! Read and respond that message Mr. President. Unite the people instead of dividing them and grow up from betting one community against the other!

4- Stop the politics of smallness; the politics of the belly and the politics of ostrich! Broaden your vision and look beyond vindictive politics you pursue. Let us Stop the politics of divide and rule, look beyond the house you reside Mr. President.

5- Let us stop the politics of lies in which mostly [but not confined to] the Ministry of foreign affairs make her strategy as to cover deficiencies from their side! That agency is a sample of deceit and deception as widely believed! The Ministry of interior is as worse. The government of Siilanyo lost the trust of the people! They lost integrity!

They have to regain the trust of the people by showing them “the Gooder” they can do if so they want, or if Allah wants that.” Allah guides not the snares of the false ones”

Peace and prayers for Somaliland
