- It is beyond belief a doctor and an experienced man in African politics to release a meaningless statement over a very sensitive situation. The clash between the patriotic military personnel and their mislead cousins which caused the death of both sides was misfortunate and shocking. This horrendous and heartbreaking event was not needed to happen in this peace-loving nation. However, the question everyone is asking, “ What was the motive of the “Press Release” meant to achieve?”
Dr Mahiga did not give a chance the situation to settle nor he did not respect the nation as whole instead he belittled our intelligent members of both houses, house of Elders and Representatives. Worst of all, he did not respect the professional judgement from our independent judges and judicial system.
The name, Dr Mahiga, has been appearing in Somali affairs for many years as a special UN envoy to Somalia. Unfortunately we have not had any tangible result from his mission. If DR Mahiga has the ability and honesty to help Somalis he has the future of the majority of Somalis on his desk. This small country that was recognised as “the beacon of democracy” in a misfortunate continent dominated by tyrant leaders surely does not need interference from outside, particularly from UN rep.
If Dr Mahiga wanted to give an honest advice to Somaliland he would have chosen a different route to deliver his concern. For instance, he would have approached the president through his channel of communications to raise the issue with him. Instead, Dr Mahiga preferred to glorify the criminal act and raised the brainwashed criminals to a higher status.
I believe the motive of his “Press Release” was to destabilise our nation and add fuel to the fire so he would assert his corrupt influence over this self-determined nation. What he did not comprehend is our strong traditional system of settling our differences aside. This nation is built on compromise, mutual understanding, respect and trust. The “Press Release” has achieved nothing other than alienating the whole Somalilanders.
We do not seek solution for our differences from a morally bankrupt officer wearing UN hat. We value the thoughts and advice from members of our community who devote their time, wealth and blood for the security and development of their blessed homeland.
Dr Mahiga has discredited his position as an impartial UN envoy consequently Somaliland public has lost faith in him. I urge Dr Mahiga to stay out of this small peaceful country’s affairs engulfed by fire and troubled nations. I would also advise UN to restrain this vicious lone wolf and withdraw his statement publicly and unreservedly before it is too late. Remember the history do not have a short memory span.
